Annular solar eclipse of 6 February 2027: times and ring of fire in your city

On 6 February 2027 the Moon will pass in front of the Sun without covering it completely: along a path about 280 km wide across southern Chile, Patagonia, the Buenos Aires coast, eastern Uruguay and the far south of Brazil, a ring of fire will be visible. Elsewhere in South America the eclipse will be partial. Search your city to see the exact time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I look at the annular eclipse without glasses?

No, never. Even during the ring of fire about 14 % of the Sun stays visible, enough to damage your eyes. Use glasses certified to ISO 12312-2 or a pinhole projector. Ordinary sunglasses do not protect you.

Where will the ring of fire be visible?

Along a path about 280 km wide: southern Chile (Chiloé), Argentine Patagonia (Esquel, Viedma), southern Buenos Aires province (Bahía Blanca, Necochea, Mar del Plata, Pinamar, Villa Gesell), eastern Uruguay (Maldonado, Rocha) and the far south of Brazil (Santa Vitória do Palmar). At sunset it also reaches Ghana, Togo and Benin. Buenos Aires (82 %), Montevideo (86 %) and São Paulo (78 %) will see a partial eclipse.

What time is the eclipse?

Around midday in South America. In Mar del Plata it starts at 10:45 and the ring lasts from 12:24 to 12:32 (ART); in Buenos Aires the maximum is at 12:32, in Maldonado the ring is at 12:36 (UYT) and in São Paulo the maximum is at 13:22 (BRT). In Ghana the ring arrives at 17:50 (GMT), just before sunset.
